Community Gardens

The Windsor Garden Group maintains many gardens in the village and town of Windsor.  However, there are other hands at work in our community too!

The classes at Palmer Elementary school worked with Mrs. Nikki Cappello and many other volunteers to plant flowers around a large bluestone "W" on the slope at the Windsor intersection.  They also repaired the stone letters on the existing WINDSOR sign.  There is now a plaque on top of the embankment which reads "Windsor Crossroads" if you'd like to know more.

Our Villiage guys (Dave & Dan) have real green thumbs and aren't afraid to use them.  The bulbs and plantings you see around the sidewalks in front of the Community House and in the intersection gardens are their projects.

The Garden Group has enjoyed many planting projects at A.F. Palmer and the Middle School through the years.  In the summer of 2008 a crew from the school district installed a series of landscaped gardens around the building at 213 Main St.  We're looking forward to seeing it in full bloom this summer!

Various gardeners also maintain gardens at the High School, Klumpp Park, and at many of the businesses and churches throughout the town.

Welcome...

On Tuesday, January 26, the Windsor Garden Group met at the Community House to create a very special Arrangement which was presented to our Senior Citizen friends at their Wednesday luncheon.

Led by Judy Williams, we melted several varieties of chocolate, cut fruits into fancy shapes, including hearts & flowers, and dipped marshmallows -and many of the fruits- in the chocolate. We then arranged the goodies on bamboo skewers, topped them off with cherries, and designed a mouth-watering edible arrangement!

Dipping and Testing-Two very important jobs

The arrangement begins to take shape

The Windsor Garden Group mission statement is: To exchange gardening ideas and discoveries, as well as seeds and plants, to do some community service, and to keep gardening Fun!

Palmer Colonial Gardens

A new series of gardens is being installed at Palmer Elementary school on the corner of Main & Grove Streets.

The fenced-in area will be a Colonial Garden with raised beds for the third, fourth & fifth graders, and some smaller planting areas for the younger students.  The gardens will also have brick walkways, a bird bath and bird feeders, a sun dial, a trellis, an area for a Community garden, and a Learning Courtyard.

Possible guests to the gardens could be the Zoo-mobile, Civil War Reenactors, Garden Clubs, and local Historians.
